Growing up in Pacific Northwest, weeks would go by without a glimpse of sunshine. In it's place there would be lots and lots of rain! Having lived in Southern California for the last 25 years has been a real eye opener. I never imagined I would miss rain but here I am. I've had to evolve as a gardener, learning about drought tolerant plants and more sustainable irrigation methods. I've recently become more sensitive to stormwater and how my landscape doesn't keep it in. The rare rain events we get here are such a joy, but it pains me to see the river of water that flows down the street to the storm drain every time. I have big plans to re-landscape my property, fix my irrigation, and add a permeable driveway but first things first! This year I got a new 50 gallon rain barrel and I have two more on the way! This one filled up in one night of light rain and I was so excited! It feels great to be doing something important for the environment and my plants love it too!
