Reducing my water foot print
One thing that really caught my attention was the amount of water I use in my daily life. I hadn’t realized how much of a footprint I was leaving until I took a survey and learned some valuable tips.
While some of these tips were already part of my routine, others were still kind of new to me. For example, I already use glass containers to store food and drink water from instead of being dependent on single-use water bottles, which can add to waste and increase environmental impact. However, one thing I lack when it comes to reducing my water footprint is recycling. Whenever I drink soda or even bottles of cider, I never take the time to recycle them. After taking the water footprint test, I discovered not only the environmental benefits of recycling but also that I could earn money by doing so. It still stuns me that the cans we drink from require water to be produced in the factory. Another surprising fact I learned was the importance of rinsing glass containers before recycling them. I didn’t realize that leftover excess could contaminate other recyclables and deem them not good to be used anymore. Doing these small changes throughout my life, like rinsing containers and being more mindful about recycling, can make a big difference in reducing my water footprint and environmental impact.
