I dedicated this assignment to show how I minimize my environmental effects by selecting essential travel items which I use during my journeys. The three personal examples I presented through photos include my 100% recycled backpack, a reusable glass water bottle and organic cotton underwear.
The selection of these items enables me to achieve zero-waste during my long periods of traveling. The backpack I use contains only recycled materials which decreases the need for new plastic materials and transforms previous plastic waste into usable products. The backpack I use for travel serves as a replacement for single-use bags because I have used it every day for multiple months which has helped me avoid creating waste. The glass bottle which I use as my main water bottle appears in this photograph. I prevent daily plastic bottle purchases through my practice of continuously filling the bottle throughout each day. Glass exists as a completely recyclable material which prevents chemical contamination and microplastic release into water streams thus providing a safer environmentally friendly choice. I select clothing which uses natural fibers for my selection because I chose the organic cotton underwear shown in the photo. Synthetic materials including fabrics and plastics contain chemicals which function as endocrine disruptors to disrupt human hormone regulation. The selection of organic cotton instead of synthetic materials helps me avoid chemical contact while it decreases the amount of microplastics which washing processes create. The combination of my daily decisions has helped me minimize my travel waste while showing me that individual health directly affects environmental sustainability.
