One way that I reduce my consumption of plastics is with tea. I’ve drank tea almost everyday for years, because I really can't drink coffee without feeling horrible, and over the past few months I have switched away from buying bags or concentrates. The tea that I purchase now is primarily loose leaf tea, it almost always tastes way better and has less of an adverse effect on the climate. Typical tea bags are sealed with plastic, they are always individually wrapped and can either be inside a paper or plastic packet. I’m able to use a fairly small amount of leaves for my tea everyday, which is a lot better than throwing out a bag every day or using too much leaf for the amount of water. I have a few metal strainer that is very easy to use and doesn’t produce nearly as much waste as bags. I decided to switch how I purchase my tea because not only was it cheaper for me but it also drastically reduced the waste that I produce at home. There are plenty of other things I can do and things I am doing actively, but this has been a daily change for me that has made me more mindful of my impact on the environment.
